How to connect AfterShip to Datadrew

Last updated on Jul 07, 2026

What data does Datadrew pull from AfterShip?

Connecting AfterShip to Datadrew gives you comprehensive shipment tracking and post-purchase analytics. Datadrew syncs tracking data, delivery status updates, estimated delivery dates, carrier performance, and return information — helping you monitor delivery success rates, identify shipping bottlenecks, and improve the post-purchase customer experience.

Prerequisites

  • An active AfterShip account (all plans supported)
  • Admin or owner access to generate API keys

Step-by-step: Generate your AfterShip API key

  1. Log in to your AfterShip Admin Dashboard.
  2. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
  3. Navigate to API Keys.
  4. Click Generate to create a new API key.
  5. Select API Key only as the authentication type.
  6. Under permissions, grant read/write access for Tracking and Returns.
  7. Give the key a descriptive name (e.g., "Datadrew Integration").
  8. Copy the generated API key.

Important: When generating the API key, make sure to select "API Key only" — do NOT select "SignString." The SignString authentication method is not compatible with the Datadrew integration.

What to enter in Datadrew

  1. In your Datadrew dashboard, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Find AfterShip and click Connect.
  3. Paste your API key into the API Key field.
  4. Click Save to complete the connection.

Troubleshooting

  • "Invalid API Key" error? Make sure you selected "API Key only" and NOT "SignString" when generating the key. SignString keys use a different authentication mechanism that Datadrew does not support.
  • Missing tracking data? Verify that the API key has read/write permissions for both Tracking and Returns. Keys with insufficient permissions will connect successfully but return incomplete data.
  • Rate limit errors? AfterShip enforces API rate limits based on your plan. If you are on a lower-tier plan with limited API calls, the sync may take longer. Consider upgrading your AfterShip plan if you have a high volume of shipments.
  • Data not appearing after 24 hours? Disconnect and reconnect the integration in Datadrew. Ensure the API key is still active in your AfterShip dashboard (keys can be revoked or expired).
