How to connect ShipStation to Datadrew

Last updated on Jul 07, 2026

What data does Datadrew pull from ShipStation?

Connecting ShipStation to Datadrew gives you access to your shipping and fulfillment data, including shipments, orders, carriers, warehouses, tracking information, and shipping costs. This helps you analyze fulfillment efficiency, track shipping costs as a percentage of revenue, and identify delivery performance trends.

Prerequisites

  • A ShipStation account (any plan)
  • Account Owner access in ShipStation (only the account owner can generate API keys)
  • An active Datadrew account (any plan)

Step-by-step: Generate your ShipStation API credentials

  1. Log in to your ShipStation account.
  2. Click the gear icon to open Settings.
  3. Navigate to API Settings under Account.
  4. Your API Key and API Secret are displayed on this page.
  5. If no keys exist, click Generate API Keys.
  6. Copy both the API Key and API Secret immediately.

Warning: Both the API Key and API Secret are only shown once when generated. Copy both values before leaving the page. If you lose either, you will need to regenerate a new pair.

⚠️ Important: Only the Account Owner can view and generate API keys in ShipStation. If you are a team member, ask your account owner to provide the credentials.

What to enter in Datadrew

  1. In Datadrew, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Find ShipStation and click Connect.
  3. Enter both credentials as described in the table below.
  4. Click Save to complete the connection.
Field Value
API Key Your ShipStation API Key
API Secret Your ShipStation API Secret

Tip: ShipStation API keys expire after 3, 6, or 12 months depending on your settings. Set a reminder to regenerate and update the key in Datadrew before it expires to avoid data sync interruptions.

Troubleshooting

  • "Authentication failed" error: ShipStation uses Basic authentication. Ensure both the API Key and API Secret are entered correctly in their respective fields.
  • Cannot find API Settings: Only the Account Owner has access to API Settings. Team members and other roles cannot view this page.
  • Keys expired: ShipStation API keys have an expiration period (3, 6, or 12 months). If your connection stops working, check if your keys have expired and regenerate them.
  • Data not syncing: Verify your ShipStation account is active and the API keys have not been regenerated (which invalidates old keys). Re-enter updated credentials in Datadrew if needed.
