How to connect Smile.io to Datadrew

What data does Datadrew pull from Smile.io?

Connecting Smile.io to Datadrew lets you analyze your loyalty and rewards program performance alongside your sales data. Datadrew syncs points balances, reward redemptions, referral activity, VIP tier membership, and program engagement — helping you measure the ROI of your loyalty program and identify your most valuable repeat customers.

Prerequisites

  • A Smile.io account on the Plus plan or higher — API access is not available on lower-tier plans
  • Admin access to your Smile.io dashboard

Plan requirement: Smile.io API key management requires the Plus plan or higher. If you are on the Starter or Growth plan, you will need to upgrade before connecting to Datadrew. See Smile.io's pricing page for current plan details.

Step-by-step: Generate your Smile.io API key

  1. Log in to your Smile.io Admin Dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon in the sidebar).
  3. Click Developer tools.
  4. Click Manage API keys.
  5. Click Generate to create a new API key.
  6. Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Datadrew Integration").
  7. Copy the API key immediately — it is only shown once and cannot be retrieved later.

Important: The API key is displayed only once at the time of creation. If you lose it, you will need to generate a new one. Copy it to a secure location before closing the dialog.

What to enter in Datadrew

  1. In your Datadrew dashboard, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Find Smile.io and click Connect.
  3. Paste your API key into the API Key field.
  4. Click Save to complete the connection.

Troubleshooting

  • "Developer tools" not visible? This section is only available on the Plus plan and above. Check your current plan under Settings → Billing. See Smile.io's pricing page for details.
  • Lost your API key? Smile.io only shows the key once at creation. You will need to generate a new API key and update it in Datadrew.
  • "Unauthorized" errors after connecting? The API key may have been revoked or replaced. Generate a new key in Smile.io and update the integration in Datadrew.
  • Data not syncing? Ensure the API key was copied completely without any trailing spaces. After connecting, allow up to 24 hours for the initial data sync.
