Troubleshooting Google Ads connection

If you are experiencing issues with your Google Ads connection in Datadrew, this article covers the most common problems and how to resolve them. Authorization fails or hangs Problem: The Google sign-in window does not open, shows an error, or the authorization does not complete. Possible causes: - Pop-up blocker preventing the Google OAuth window. - You are signed into multiple Google accounts and the wrong one is being used. - Google is blocking the authorization because of account security settings. Solutions: 1. Allow pop-ups for app.datadrew.io and accounts.google.com. 2. Before connecting, sign into only the Google account with Google Ads access. Alternatively, use an incognito window and sign in with the correct account. 3. Check if you have any security alerts in your Google account at myaccount.google.com/security. No accounts appear after authorization Problem: You authorize successfully but no Google Ads accounts are listed. Possible causes: - The Google account does not have access to any Google Ads accounts. - You only have access to a manager (MCC) account with no sub-accounts. - The Google Ads account was recently created and may not be fully provisioned. Solutions: 1. Verify your access by signing into ads.google.com directly with the same Google account. 2. If you use an MCC account, ensure it has at least one active sub-account. 3. Ask your Google Ads administrator to grant your Google account at least read access. Token expired -- sync stopped Problem: Google Ads data stops syncing and the integration shows a disconnected status. Possible causes: - Google revoked the refresh token (this can happen if you remove Datadrew from your authorized apps or change your Google password). - Your Google Ads account was suspended. Solutions: 1. Go to Settings > Integrations in Datadrew. 2. Click Reconnect next to the Google Ads integration. 3. Complete the Google authorization flow. Datadrew always requests offline access and prompts for consent to obtain a fresh refresh token. 4. Your data pipeline will resume syncing from where it left off. Metrics do not match Google Ads dashboard Problem: Numbers in Datadrew differ from what you see in the Google Ads dashboard. Possible causes: - Conversion lag -- Google Ads may adjust conversion data for several days after the click date. Very recent data may not yet reflect final numbers. - Date range or timezone -- Ensure you are comparing the same date range and timezone in both platforms. - Attribution model -- Your Google Ads account may use a different attribution model than last-click. Datadrew syncs the raw data as reported by Google. - Filtered views -- Your Google Ads dashboard may have filters applied (e.g., by campaign type or network) that affect the totals. Solutions: 1. Compare the same date range and remove any filters in Google Ads. 2. For recent data, wait 48 hours for conversions to finalize. 3. If the discrepancy persists, contact us with screenshots from both platforms and we will investigate. Only seeing some campaigns Problem: Some campaigns appear in Datadrew but others are missing. Possible causes: - The campaigns may belong to a different Google Ads customer account. - If you have multiple Google Ads accounts, you may have connected the wrong one. Solutions: 1. Check which Google Ads customer ID is connected in Settings > Integrations. 2. If you need a different account, disconnect the current one and reconnect with the correct account. Need help? Understanding Google Ads metrics in Datadrew

Datadrew pulls key performance metrics from your Google Ads account to give you a unified view of your advertising performance. This article explains what each metric means and how it helps your e-commerce business. Core performance metrics | | | | | --- | --- | --- | | Metric | Definition | Why It Matters | | Spend | Total advertising cost for the selected period. Google Ads reports cost in micros (millionths of the account currency), which Datadrew converts to standard currency values. | Your advertising budget baseline. Essential for calculating ROAS and understanding your cost structure. | | Impressions | The number of times your ads were shown on Google Search, Display Network, YouTube, or Shopping. | Measures visibility. Compare impressions across campaigns to understand which are getting the most exposure. | | Clicks | The number of times users clicked on your ads. | Directly measures user interest. Unlike Facebook, Google Ads "Clicks" typically means clicks to your website. | | CTR (Click-Through Rate) | Clicks divided by Impressions, expressed as a percentage. | Indicates how relevant your ads are to the audience seeing them. Low CTR may signal the need for better ad copy or targeting. | | CPC (Cost Per Click) | Spend divided by Clicks. | Your average cost for each website visit from Google Ads. Compare across campaigns and ad groups to optimize budget allocation. | | CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions) | Cost per 1,000 impressions. Calculated as (Spend / Impressions) x 1,000. | Most relevant for Display and YouTube campaigns where awareness is the goal rather than direct clicks. | Conversion metrics | | | | | --- | --- | --- | | Metric | Definition | Why It Matters | | Conversions | The number of conversion actions (purchases, sign-ups, etc.) attributed to your ads based on your Google Ads conversion tracking setup. | Your primary success metric. Ensure your Google Ads conversion tracking is properly configured for accurate data. | | Conversion Value | The total monetary value of all conversions attributed to your ads. | Represents the revenue your Google Ads campaigns are driving. Used to calculate ROAS. | | ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) | Conversion Value divided by Spend. | Tells you how much revenue each dollar of ad spend generates. Compare your Google Ads ROAS with Facebook Ads ROAS in the Blended Metrics view. | | Video Views | The number of times your video ads were viewed (for YouTube and video campaigns). | Relevant if you run YouTube or video campaigns. Helps measure brand awareness and top-of-funnel engagement. | Data breakdowns available Datadrew provides several dimensions for slicing your Google Ads data: - By campaign -- See performance for each individual campaign. - By ad network type -- Separate Search, Display, YouTube, and Shopping performance. - By device -- Compare desktop, mobile, and tablet performance. - By hour -- Analyze which hours of the day drive the best performance. - By product -- For Shopping campaigns, see which products generate the most clicks and revenue. Where these metrics appear in Datadrew - Ads dashboard -- Full Google Ads performance with trends, breakdowns, and comparisons. - Blended Metrics -- Google Ads + Facebook Ads combined for total marketing performance (total spend, blended ROAS, blended CPC). - Hourly Performance -- Time-of-day analysis for Google Ads alongside other channels. - Drew AI -- Ask questions like "What is my Google Ads ROAS this month?" or "Which Shopping campaign has the best conversion rate?" Connecting your Google Ads account

Connecting your Google Ads account lets Datadrew pull campaign performance data alongside your Shopify and other marketing data. This guide walks you through connecting Google Ads via OAuth. Prerequisites - A Google account with at least read access to the Google Ads account (or MCC account) you want to connect. - An active Datadrew account with your Shopify store already connected. - Pop-ups enabled in your browser. Step-by-step connection 1. In Datadrew, go to Settings > Integrations. 2. Find the Google Ads card and click Connect. 3. A Google sign-in window will open. Sign in with the Google account that has access to your Google Ads account. 4. Google will ask you to grant Datadrew permission to view and manage your Google Ads data. Click Allow. 5. After authorization, you will be redirected back to Datadrew. 6. Datadrew will display a list of Google Ads customer accounts accessible with your credentials. This includes: - Standard accounts -- Regular advertiser accounts you can select. - MCC (Manager) accounts -- Displayed for reference. If you have an MCC account, all sub-accounts managed by it are also listed and individually selectable. - Test accounts -- Labeled so you can skip them. 7. Select the account you want to connect and click Confirm. MCC (Manager) account support If your Google account has access to an MCC (My Client Center) manager account, Datadrew automatically discovers all sub-accounts under it. You will see both the manager account and all its child accounts listed during selection. Select the specific advertiser account(s) you want to track -- do not select the manager account itself. When querying sub-accounts under an MCC, Datadrew uses the manager account ID as the login customer ID to ensure proper API access. What data syncs Once connected, Datadrew syncs the following data streams from your Google Ads account: - Campaign data -- Campaign names, statuses, types, daily metrics broken down by ad network type and hour. - Customer (account) data -- Account-level daily metrics segmented by date. - Account performance report -- Daily metrics broken down by ad network type and device. - Shopping performance -- Product-level performance data including clicks, impressions, and cost for your Shopping campaigns. Maps to your Shopify product catalog. - Hourly insights -- Hourly breakdowns of impressions, clicks, and cost for time-of-day analysis. What to expect after connecting - Initial sync typically takes 10 to 45 minutes. - Your Google Ads data will appear in the Ads dashboard, Blended Metrics view, and be available to Drew AI. - Ongoing syncs happen daily (Starter plan) or hourly (Pro plan). Disconnecting and reconnecting You can disconnect your Google Ads integration at any time from Settings > Integrations. To reconnect, simply click Connect again and repeat the authorization flow. Your historical data is preserved and syncing resumes from where it left off. Need help? Contact us at support@datadrew.io.
