Troubleshooting Facebook Ads connection

If you are having trouble connecting or syncing your Facebook (Meta) Ads data, this article covers the most common issues and how to resolve them. Connection fails during Facebook authorization Problem: You click Connect but the Facebook authorization window shows an error or closes without completing. Possible causes: - Pop-up blocker is preventing the authorization window from opening. - You are not logged into Facebook, or you are logged into a different Facebook account than intended. - Your browser has stale Facebook session cookies. Solutions: 1. Disable pop-up blockers for app.datadrew.io and facebook.com. 2. Log into the correct Facebook account in a separate tab before starting the connection. 3. Clear your browser cookies for facebook.com and try again. 4. Try using an incognito/private browsing window. No ad accounts appear after authorization Problem: You successfully authorize with Facebook, but no ad accounts are listed for selection. Possible causes: - The Facebook account you authorized with does not have Ad Account Admin or Business Admin access to any ad accounts. - You denied the required permissions during the Facebook authorization step. Solutions: 1. Verify that your Facebook account has admin access to at least one ad account in Meta Business Settings. 2. Disconnect and reconnect the integration from Settings > Integrations. Make sure to accept all requested permissions during the authorization step. Token expired or revoked Problem: Your Facebook Ads data stops syncing and you see a "disconnected" or "error" status in your integrations. Possible causes: - You changed your Facebook password, which invalidates all active tokens. - You removed Datadrew from your Facebook app settings. - Facebook's data access authorization expired (tokens have a data access expiry, typically around 90 days for some configurations). - A Facebook Business Manager admin removed your access to the ad account. Solutions: 1. Go to Settings > Integrations in Datadrew. 2. Find the affected Facebook Ads integration and click Reconnect. 3. Complete the Facebook authorization flow again. Select the same ad account(s). 4. Your data pipeline will resume from where it left off. Data is syncing but metrics seem wrong Problem: Facebook Ads data appears in Datadrew but the numbers do not match what you see in Facebook Ads Manager. Possible causes: - Attribution window differences -- Facebook Ads Manager may be using a different attribution window than the default 7-day click, 1-day view. - Timezone mismatch -- Your ad account timezone may differ from what you expect. - Data delay -- Facebook adjusts conversion data for up to 7 days. If you are comparing very recent data, Datadrew may not have the final adjusted figures yet. - Date range -- Ensure you are comparing the exact same date range in both platforms. Solutions: 1. Check your attribution settings in Facebook Ads Manager and match them when comparing. 2. Verify the timezone of your ad account in Meta Business Settings. 3. Wait 24 to 48 hours for very recent data to stabilize before comparing. Sync is stuck or taking too long Problem: The initial sync has been running for many hours without completing. Possible causes: - Very large ad account with years of historical data. - Facebook API rate limiting. Solutions: 1. Initial syncs for large accounts can take up to several hours. Give it at least 6 hours before contacting support. 2. If the sync has been stuck for more than 12 hours, contact us at support@datadrew.io with your store name and we will investigate. Need help? Understanding Facebook Ads metrics in Datadrew

Datadrew pulls a comprehensive set of metrics from your Facebook (Meta) Ads account. This article explains what each metric means, how Datadrew calculates it, and why it matters for your e-commerce business. Core performance metrics | | | | | --- | --- | --- | | Metric | Definition | Why It Matters | | Spend | Total amount spent on your ads in the selected period, in your ad account's currency. | Your baseline for calculating efficiency metrics like ROAS and CPC. Track this to manage your advertising budget. | | Impressions | The number of times your ads were displayed on screen. | Measures your ad reach. A high impression count with low clicks may indicate creative fatigue or poor targeting. | | Clicks | Total clicks on your ad, including all click types (link clicks, post reactions, comments, shares). | Broad engagement indicator. For traffic analysis, focus on Link Clicks instead. | | Link Clicks | Clicks that direct people to your website or app (a subset of total Clicks). | The most relevant click metric for e-commerce. Tells you how many people actually visited your store from an ad. | | CTR (Click-Through Rate) | Link Clicks divided by Impressions, expressed as a percentage. | Measures how compelling your ad creative and copy are. A higher CTR means your ads resonate with your audience. | | CPC (Cost Per Click) | Spend divided by Link Clicks. | Tells you how much you pay for each website visit. Compare across campaigns to find your most cost-efficient traffic sources. | Conversion metrics | | | | | --- | --- | --- | | Metric | Definition | Why It Matters | | Purchases | The number of purchase events attributed to your ads by Facebook's conversion tracking. | Your primary conversion metric. Directly tied to revenue generated from advertising. | | ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) | Purchase conversion value divided by Spend. | The single most important efficiency metric. A ROAS of 3.0 means you earned $3 for every $1 spent. Compare this with your blended ROAS across all channels. | | Cost per Purchase | Spend divided by the number of Purchases. | Your customer acquisition cost from Facebook Ads. Use this to evaluate whether your campaigns are profitable given your average order value. | Funnel metrics | | | | | --- | --- | --- | | Metric | Definition | Why It Matters | | Landing Page Views | The number of times a person loaded your website after clicking your ad. Requires the Facebook Pixel. | More accurate than Link Clicks because it counts only visits where the page actually loaded. A big gap between Link Clicks and Landing Page Views may signal slow page load times. | | Add to Cart | The number of add-to-cart events attributed to your ads. | Measures purchase intent. A high add-to-cart rate with low purchases suggests checkout friction. | | Initiate Checkout | The number of checkout-initiated events attributed to your ads. | The final step before purchase. Monitor the drop-off between Initiate Checkout and Purchase to identify conversion barriers. | How Datadrew uses these metrics - Ads dashboard -- Displays all metrics above with daily trends, campaign-level breakdowns, and period-over-period comparisons. - Blended Metrics -- Combines Facebook Ads spend and ROAS with Google Ads data to show your total marketing efficiency. - Hourly Performance -- Shows spend, impressions, and clicks broken down by hour of day, helping you identify peak performance windows. - Drew AI -- Can query any of these metrics in natural language. Ask things like "What was my Facebook ROAS last week?" or "Which campaign had the lowest CPC this month?" Attribution and data freshness Facebook Ads metrics use Facebook's own attribution model (default 7-day click, 1-day view). Conversion data may be adjusted for up to 7 days after the initial report as Facebook finalizes attribution. Datadrew's incremental syncs capture these adjustments automatically. Need help? Connecting multiple Facebook ad accounts

If you manage advertising across multiple Facebook ad accounts -- for different brands, regions, or clients -- Datadrew supports connecting more than one ad account to a single Shopify store. This article explains how multi-account connections work and how to set them up. How multiple ad accounts work in Datadrew Each Facebook Ads connection in Datadrew is tied to a specific ad account. You can connect multiple ad accounts by repeating the connection process. Each connected account gets its own data pipeline and appears as a separate integration in your settings. When you view your Ads dashboard or Blended Metrics, Datadrew aggregates data across all connected Facebook ad accounts by default. You can also filter by individual ad accounts where supported. Connecting additional ad accounts 1. Go to Settings > Integrations in Datadrew. 2. Find the Facebook Ads section. You will see your existing connected account(s) listed. 3. Click Add Account or Connect Another. 4. The Facebook OAuth window will open. If you need to connect an ad account under a different Facebook profile, sign out of Facebook first. 5. Authorize Datadrew and select the additional ad account(s) you want to connect. 6. Click Confirm. A new data pipeline will be created for each selected account. Using a Business Manager account If you use Meta Business Manager, Datadrew will automatically detect all ad accounts accessible through your Business Manager profile. During the account selection step, you will see: - The ad account name and ID - The Business Manager (owner) that each account belongs to - The account status (active, disabled, etc.) This makes it easy to connect multiple accounts in a single authorization flow -- just select all the accounts you need and confirm. Important considerations - Same currency recommended -- For the most accurate blended metrics, we recommend connecting ad accounts that use the same currency as your Shopify store. Datadrew does not perform currency conversion. - Separate data pipelines -- Each connected ad account has its own sync schedule and data pipeline. If one account encounters an error, it will not affect the others. - Token sharing -- If multiple ad accounts are connected via the same Facebook profile, they share the same OAuth token. If that token expires or is revoked, all accounts tied to it will need to be reconnected. - Disconnecting one account -- You can disconnect individual ad accounts without affecting the others. Go to Settings > Integrations, find the specific account, and click Disconnect. Drew AI and multiple accounts Drew AI is aware of all your connected Facebook ad accounts. You can ask questions like: - "Compare ROAS across my Facebook ad accounts" - "Which ad account had the highest spend last month?" - "Show me campaign performance for [account name]" Drew AI uses both historical data (from your synced data warehouse) and live data (via the MCP gateway) to answer these questions. Connecting your Facebook/Meta Ads account

Connecting your Facebook (Meta) Ads account lets Datadrew pull your ad performance data into unified dashboards alongside your Shopify, Google Ads, and other marketing data. This guide walks you through the connection process step by step. Prerequisites - A Facebook account with Ad Account Admin or Business Admin access to the ad account you want to connect. - An active Datadrew account with your Shopify store already connected. - Pop-ups enabled in your browser (the Facebook OAuth flow opens in a new window). Step-by-step connection 1. In Datadrew, go to Settings > Integrations (or follow the onboarding prompt if this is your first setup). 2. Find the Facebook Ads card and click Connect. 3. A Facebook login window will open. Sign in with the Facebook account that has admin access to your ad account. 4. Facebook will ask you to authorize Datadrew. The permissions requested include: - ads_read -- Read your ad account data - read_insights -- Access performance metrics and reporting - business_management -- View your business accounts and associated ad accounts 5. After authorizing, you will be redirected back to Datadrew. 6. Datadrew will display a list of all ad accounts associated with your Facebook profile. Select the ad account(s) you want to connect. 7. Click Confirm to complete the setup. Your data pipeline will begin syncing. What data syncs Once connected, Datadrew syncs the following data from your Facebook Ads account: - Ad account details -- Account name, status, currency, and timezone. - Campaigns -- Campaign names, statuses, objectives, and creation dates. - Ad sets -- Ad set configurations, targeting, and budgets. - Ads -- Individual ad details and creative references. - Ad insights -- Daily performance metrics including spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, and ROAS. - Hourly insights -- Hourly breakdowns of spend, impressions, and clicks for time-of-day analysis. - Product-level insights -- Performance data broken down by product ID for cross-referencing with your Shopify catalog. - Images and videos -- Creative asset metadata for campaign analysis. What to expect after connecting - Initial sync takes 15 to 60 minutes depending on your ad account history. - Once complete, your Facebook Ads data will appear in the Ads dashboard, Blended Metrics view, and be available to Drew AI. - Ongoing syncs happen daily (Starter plan) or hourly (Pro plan). Token and access Datadrew exchanges your short-lived Facebook token for a long-lived token during the connection process. This token is stored securely and used for all subsequent data syncs. If Facebook revokes the token (for example, if you change your Facebook password), you will need to reconnect from Settings > Integrations. Need help? Contact us at support@datadrew.io.
